About Andrew
Andrew Tang is an urbanist and architect that has worked around the world contributing to many innovative and challenging projects in the fields of Urban Design, Architecture, and Landscape Architecture. In the broad range and scale of work, the underlying proposition is about adding value to communities through creative design-thinking, placemaking, and bringing together the right team.
After graduating from the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago, Andrew has worked in The Netherlands with internationally recognized firms such as West 8 and MVRDV for nearly two decades. He has worked on projects such as the 720,000SF Central Station in Rotterdam, as well as designing and realizing the award-winning Vlaardingen Pedestrian Bridge. He has been on diverse Design Teams and Client Teams of numerous large-scale projects, working with authorities, landowners, developers, consultants and the community.
In early 2013 Andrew returned home to Hawaii, bringing his wealth of work and life experience with him. He was a part of Honolulu's Transit-oriented Development (TOD) Division before he joined Hawaii Public Housing Authority's Development Team to help produce more affordable housing in Hawaii. He now manages his own design studio to serve the community. He is also on the University of Hawaii's School of Architecture Dean Advisory Council, and an Affiliate Graduate Faculty.
Andrew is acknowledged for his visionary approach while having the ability to deliver functional yet extraordinary projects. Besides English, Andrew speaks Cantonese-Chinese, Dutch and basic Spanish.
